Why Spiritual Awareness Matters for Mental Wellbeing

Spiritual wellbeing is increasingly recognised as an important component of holistic mental health.

Research by Dr. Lisa Miller and colleagues demonstrates that spiritual awareness correlates with increased resilience, healthier brain patterns, and lower risk of depression.

A sense of connection and meaning can profoundly shape how we think, feel, and cope.

This tool offers a structured, reflective way to explore spirituality alongside our core resources.

Includes 3 Meditations to Quiet Your Mind

    • 1. Accessing the Higher Self. Explore the nature of the higher self – the part of us that responds rather than reacts; the part of us that aligns with values such as compassion, love, and creativity.
    • 2. Ego to Awareness. Find peace beyond the chatter of fear-based thoughts, identifying as the calm awareness that observes them. Available in both long and short formats.
    • 3. Leaning into Trust. Inspired by spiritual principles, this meditation reframes life’s uncertainties as a ride to be met with openness, while cultivating a sense of being supported and guided by a larger intelligence.

These meditations are reflective journeys that combine mindfulness with metaphysical insight. They serve as a practical tool for nurturing your daily spirituality, actively reinforcing the key concepts in Becoming Whole.

Provided as MP3 files, allowing you to download and store them on your devices.

    Total combined length: 31 minutes.

    Stephanie Coogan, PhD

    Clinical Psychologist

As a clinical psychologist, I appreciated Becoming Whole for its integrative and compassionate approach to mental health.

This resource skillfully bridges ancient spiritual traditions with contemporary psychological insights, offering readers a multidimensional framework for healing that goes beyond symptom reduction.

I especially valued the emphasis on self-realization, mindfulness, and alignment with higher values, which are concepts that are aligned with humanistic and transpersonal psychology. Overall, this resource offers a rich, thoughtful contribution to the evolving conversation around holistic mental health.

    Melanie Encinas (@melaniecristie)

At first, I feared that the book would be too philosophical, or I might experience information overload. However, upon going through the content, I felt more at ease. It felt enlightening to have a deeper understanding of the concepts we usually hear when studying mindfulness, spirituality, and religion.

My biggest takeaways were probably the concepts of wu wei, wholesome and unwholesome desire, and the existence of a higher power that we can hold on to.

Everyone may have a different take on spirituality but knowing that we are governed by something greater and bigger than us can propel us to view life differently.

5What is the research foundation for this work?

Becoming Whole is informed by an integrative foundation that bridges established psychological approaches with contemplative traditions.

It’s informed by contemporary research into spirituality and mental health, including the work of Dr. Lisa Miller and colleagues. Her research demonstrates that spiritual awareness correlates with increased resilience, healthier brain patterns, and lower risk of depression.

This body of work supports the tool’s emphasis on connection to something larger than ourselves and cultivating values often described as spiritual. Importantly, it remains compatible with pluralistic settings, aligning with individuals from diverse cultural, religious, and spiritual backgrounds, without privileging any single belief system.

The tool also aligns with mindfulness-based approaches, deepening understanding of non-judgemental observation while providing metaphysical context for mindfulness.

Core elements of the tool align with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) through its emphasis on values-based living and acceptance of internal experiences.

The tool also integrates narrative therapy, using the hero’s journey framework to help individuals reframe struggle as part of a meaningful life arc.

The distinction between the ego and the higher self closely resonates with the Internal Family Systems (IFS) concept of Self. It offers clients an intuitive way to understand the difference between reactive patterns and their deeper, wiser awareness.

In summary, Becoming Whole represents a thoughtful integration of psychology and wisdom traditions, grounded in a solid interdisciplinary foundation.

6Can I adapt the content into a workshop series?

Yes. The material is modular, making it well-suited for workshops. You can use the framework to build psychoeducational content and reflective sessions tailored to your audience.

The material includes a wide variety of self-reflective exercises, ideal for workshops where they can spark meaningful group discussion and individual reflection.

For professional use, please remember that any adaptations should remain consistent with the licence terms included with your purchase.

    7Can I resell the content?
